IntermediateAcrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
A classic engineering thermoplastic used in everything from LEGO bricks to car dashboards. ABS offers good heat resistance, impact strength, and can be acetone-smoothed for a professional glossy finish. Requires an enclosure to prevent warping.

- An enclosed printer is non-negotiable — even a cardboard enclosure dramatically reduces warping.
- Apply ABS slurry (ABS scraps dissolved in acetone) to the bed for bulletproof adhesion.
- Keep the cooling fan OFF for the first 5-10 layers, then use 10-20% max. ABS hates cold air.
- Ventilate the room — ABS emits styrene fumes that cause headaches in enclosed spaces.
- For acetone smoothing, use the cold vapor method: place prints in a sealed container with acetone-soaked paper towels for 2-4 hours.
- Set chamber temperature to 45-55°C if your printer supports it to prevent corner lifting on large prints.
