HIPS
IntermediateHigh Impact Polystyrene
A dissolvable support material designed to pair with ABS. HIPS dissolves in D-Limonene, a citrus-based solvent, leaving clean supported surfaces on ABS prints. It can also be used as a lightweight standalone material that is easy to paint and post-process.
Nozzle Temp230–245°C
Bed Temp90–110°C
Print Speed40–50 mm/s
Printing Tips
- Use HIPS at the same temperature as your ABS (or 5°C lower) for the best interface adhesion.
- D-Limonene dissolves HIPS in 12-24 hours at room temperature. Warming to 40°C cuts dissolve time in half.
- Reuse D-Limonene until it becomes syrupy — one liter handles 10+ dissolves.
- HIPS makes an excellent standalone material for lightweight props — it sands and paints better than ABS.
- Set the support interface Z gap to 0.1mm for easy dissolution without the support fusing to the ABS part.
