TPU
IntermediateThermoplastic Polyurethane
A flexible, rubber-like filament that can stretch 300-600% before breaking. TPU is the material of choice for phone cases, gaskets, wheels, and anything that needs to bend, flex, or absorb impact. Direct drive extruders handle it far better than Bowden setups.

Printing Tips
- Print SLOWLY — 25-30 mm/s is the sweet spot. Going faster causes buckling in the extruder path.
- Direct drive extruders are strongly recommended. Bowden setups work at 15-20 mm/s but are frustrating.
- Disable or minimize retraction (0.5-1mm max, direct drive). TPU compresses instead of retracting cleanly.
- Use a smooth PEI or glass bed with no adhesive. TPU sticks to everything — you need easy removal.
- Set flow rate to 95-98% — TPU is slightly compressible, so 100% flow often causes over-extrusion.
- Dry TPU at 50-55°C for 5-8 hours. Wet TPU causes non-stop popping and bubbly surfaces.
