High Speed PLA
BeginnerHigh-Flow Polylactic Acid
A specially formulated PLA engineered for extreme print speeds of 150-300+ mm/s without sacrificing layer adhesion. High-speed PLA uses modified polymer chains that maintain a low, stable melt viscosity at high flow rates. It is designed for modern high-speed printers like the Bambu Lab and Creality K-series that can mechanically handle rapid movements.
Printing Tips
- Use a high-flow hotend (e.g., Bambu Lab stock, Creality Sprite Pro) — standard hotends cannot melt filament fast enough above 200 mm/s.
- Start at 220°C and increase by 5°C if you see under-extrusion at your target speed; high flow demands more heat.
- Enable input shaping and pressure advance in your firmware — without them, ringing artifacts will ruin print quality at speed.
- High-speed PLA works best with 0.2 mm layer height and a 0.4-0.6 mm nozzle; fine layers at high speed cause flow starvation.
- Reduce acceleration for the first 3 layers to 1000 mm/s² for bed adhesion, then let the slicer ramp up.
- Quality at 250+ mm/s is comparable to standard PLA at 60 mm/s — the material is the bottleneck, not the printer.
