ABS-CF
AdvancedCarbon-fiber Reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
ABS-CF adds chopped carbon fibers to an ABS base, boosting rigidity and dimensional stability while reducing the warping tendency that plagues plain ABS. The result is a stiff, lightweight composite that vapor-smooths with acetone just like standard ABS, enabling both engineering performance and a polished cosmetic finish.
Printing Tips
- Use a hardened-steel nozzle (0.4 mm minimum) — carbon fibers wear brass nozzles rapidly, causing dimensional inaccuracy.
- An enclosed printer with stable chamber temperature (45-55 °C) is strongly recommended to prevent layer splitting.
- Dry at 65 °C for 4-6 hours before use; ABS-CF is less moisture-sensitive than nylon composites but still benefits from drying.
- Reduce retraction to 1-3 mm to avoid fiber jamming at the heat break, especially with Bowden setups.
- Acetone vapor smoothing works on ABS-CF just like plain ABS — use it for a professional, sealed surface finish.
