About ABS-CF

ABS-CF (Carbon Fiber ABS) is ABS plastic reinforced with short carbon fiber strands. The carbon fibers dramatically increase stiffness and reduce the warping tendency that makes standard ABS notoriously difficult to print. The result is a filament with good heat resistance (similar to ABS, around 100°C), a professional matte finish, and improved dimensional accuracy. ABS-CF still requires an enclosure and produces fumes that need ventilation, but it is noticeably easier to print than plain ABS due to the reduced shrinkage from the fiber reinforcement. A hardened steel nozzle (0.5mm or larger) is mandatory.

Enclosure recommended for ABS-CF printing.
Dry filament before use: 77°C for 6 hours.

ABS-CF at a Glance

Strengths

  • Much stiffer than standard ABS with less warping
  • Good heat resistance (similar to ABS, HDT ~100C)
  • Professional matte black finish
  • Better dimensional accuracy than plain ABS
  • Ideal for functional parts needing rigidity and heat resistance

Weaknesses

  • Requires hardened steel nozzle (carbon fibers destroy brass)
  • Enclosure required (emits fumes like ABS)
  • More brittle than standard ABS (reduced impact resistance)
  • Use 0.5mm+ nozzle to avoid clogging from fibers
  • Poor UV resistance (same as ABS, consider ASA-CF for outdoor use)
