About PETG-CF

PETG-CF (Carbon Fiber PETG) is standard PETG reinforced with short carbon fiber strands, resulting in a filament that is significantly stiffer than plain PETG with a professional matte black finish. It occupies a sweet spot between Carbon Fiber PLA (easier but lower heat resistance) and Carbon Fiber Nylon (stronger but much harder to print). PETG-CF does not require an enclosure in most environments and prints at moderate temperatures, making it one of the most accessible carbon fiber composites. A hardened steel nozzle is mandatory, as the carbon fibers will rapidly destroy a brass nozzle. Use a 0.5mm or larger nozzle to prevent clogging.

Dry filament before use: 65°C for 8 hours.

PETG-CF at a Glance

Strengths

  • Significantly stiffer than standard PETG
  • Professional matte surface finish
  • Reduced warping compared to plain PETG
  • Good chemical and moisture resistance
  • Excellent for functional brackets, jigs, and fixtures

Weaknesses

  • Requires hardened steel nozzle (carbon fibers destroy brass)
  • More brittle than standard PETG (reduced flexibility)
  • Must use 0.5mm+ nozzle to prevent clogging
  • Slower print speeds required than standard PETG
  • Higher cost than plain PETG ($30-45/kg)
