Description

Hi everyone, this is project ARA – an assistant for controlling an RC car. I developed it for local school racing competitions with these cars, because they use foam tires that don't provide much grip on the same foam mat the track is made of. To make my car better, I bought an "RC DRIFT Fast car", took a look, and saw how the all-wheel drive was made, but it had a cheap steering assembly with a brushed motor that didn't allow smooth steering control. I had to do quite a bit of hacking to install a servo, and as a result, I broke the steering knuckle mount — in its place, I glued a piece of a 7" propeller. The motor was easier — I just replaced the stock 130 motor with a 180 and swapped the pinion gear from the original onto mine. I disconnected the front axle drive, because the original power transfer system to the wheels limited the steering angle (I know it should have been redesigned — I wanted to, but two days after printing the case for the ARA unit, my printer died, press F)
