Mercedes W123 240D 300D center console plastic pin

This is the pin that holds the wooden switch panel in the center console to the car. The plastic pin is often broken in the old Mercedes W123 cars. I've gotten PLA to work on parts in this area of the car. I believe they anneal over time and the glass transition temperature goes up. To strengthen the pin, I made a hole down the shaft that fits a standard construction nail. Cut off a nail, coat it with your favorite epoxy and glue it into the hole for extra strength. I use gorilla clear urethane glue to secure the nail and to secure the plastic part in the wooden panel. Version 2 updated 5/29/2022: added some filet radius on leading edge and corners to match pocket routed into Mercedes wood trim.
