Description

A 4-facet point gives better cutting performance than a conventional point drill. a 4-facet point does not walk, it generates less heat, requires less thrust and lives longer. A commercial 4-facet sharpening machine, like a Tormek grinder with a DBS-22 attachment, is quite expensive and it is almost impossible to precisely sharpen a 4-facet point by hand. With this jig you can precisely and symmetrically sharpen all 4 facets, and you don't need a grinder. Sharpening is done with a 180 grit sandpaper on a flat surface. **Choosing the relief angle:** The primary relief angle should be chosen according to the drill bit diameter and the material being drilled, soft materials (mild steel, non-ferrous metals and wood) need a higher angle than hard steel. Tormek recommends the following angles: 3-6 mm drill bits - 14° for soft materials, 11° for hard steel 6-12 mm drill bits - 11° for soft materials, 9° for hard steel 12-22 mm drill bits - 9° for soft materials, 7° for hard ste
