Description
What
This part allows you to hang and remove fabric for use as a shade covering, a wall hanging or around an object. It is meant for semi-permanent use.
Background
Snap fasteners are commonly used to mount canvas, sunbrella, coolaroo or other fabrics to fixed surfaces.
Why Created
Snap fasteners are fairly expensive. Some commercial fasteners we have been using to hold up shade cloth have failed and need to be replaced. The shade cloth fabric is approximately 0.6mm thick. This design should work for anything that size or thinner.
Since we have a 3D printer, Fusion 360 and helper cats this seemed like an ideal project. The only downside was not having certified UV resistant filament. In this case black PETG was used. Lexan or Nylon should be a better material.
